our story
Kapua Waʻa Experiences was founded by Kekoa Kekumano, a native Hawaiian born and raised on the island of Oʻahu. Kekoa has had a lifelong love of the ocean cultivated since he was a young boy growing up with the waves as his playground. He spent his childhood swimming, surfing, and paddling, developing a natural connection with the water from an early age.
At 16, Kekoa began his journey working as a beach boy, immersing himself in the ocean culture of Waikīkī which ignited a profound respect for the traditions of the watermen who came before him. As a proud graduate of Kamehameha Schools, where he further connected with his culture, Kekoa gained a deep appreciation for his Hawaiian heritage.
Over the years, Kekoa honed his skills, evolving from a beach boy to a surf instructor, and later becoming a dedicated Lifeguard for the City and County of Honolulu. Driven by his unyielding love for the water he made the decision to start Kapua Waʻa Experiences.
This small, local business was created to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the islands and share its traditions with others. With intimate knowledge of Waikīkī's coastline gained from over a decade in the water, Kekoa provides personalized canoe tours that allow people from all over the world to share in its natural wonders.
